Opportunities to Participate

At Virtual Storehouse, we would like to encourage everyone to become involved. One of the most significant ways to participate is to commit to pray for a specific city, country and/or translation. Prayer is an important of what we do at Virtual Storehouse, so much so that we are developing a secure application that will facilitate prayer globally for support and encouragement among our partners. In addition to prayer, there are several other ways to participate with us:

Provide Content

Permissions: Printing scripture one book at a time, local to the consumer rather than in large lots and distributing from warehouses is as significant a shift in thinking as Gutenberg's printing press.
Preservation: Less than 1% of all translations have been digitally preserved reliably enough for the copyright holder to confidently print based on their digitally archived files. As a part of the process of making scripture available, Virtual Storehouse preserves translations in verfied digital form.
Syndication: The ability to syndicate content to consumers has the potential to create new sources of revenue for an organization. An organization contributing to Virtual Storehouse will have the ability to share content at their discretion, and to make content available via a paid or subscription service.

In this section we take a closer look at how resources, in the proper format, create some significant opportunities in terms of delivering content globally. In addition, we will look at a much-needed, but seldom understood role, the signatory.

Virtual Storehouse is about the creation, management, sharing, delivery and storage of resources. Among the benefits that result:

Reliable and technologically sound storage and archival for your files.
Finished files are archived, and future edits are captured and archived for later use.
Preservation and restoration of digital files for completed projects.
Content can be distributed globally in electronic or printed form at the point of need, when it is needed.
Content can be securely managed and shared at the complete discretion of the copyright holder.

Other Needed Resources

Volunteers:

Translation: Translate existing, non-scripture content into foreign language resources.
Authoring: Create new resources. Tools can also be provided for the indigenous creation of resources where there is anticipated demand.
Editing: Editing skills are needed for new and existing resources.
Encoding: Content may exist in a variety of formats. Some may require encoding as part of the migration to a digital format.

Financial Model

There are several ways to participate with Virtual Storehouse financially since we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. You may donate towards all phases related to publishing Bibles and scripture resources, beginning with translation, encoding, archiving, typesetting, printing and delivery.

Sources of Funding

Donations to directly to Virtual Storehouse.
Funding provided for development of Bibles and/or resources. Funds are re-paid from the sales of printed resources.

How are the funds used?

Content Preservation: Offsets the costs to encode scripture and other resources to be archived and made available for future product development.
Guarantees the availability of print facilities in targeted locations.
Donating and subsidizing Bibles and related resources.
Resource Development: Offsets the costs for authors, editors and translators to translate and/or create resources.
Fund maintenance and further development of OSIS as a Bible encoding standard.

What is the effect of my donation?

Elimination of typesetting software costs for Bible Societies.
Reduction of manual labor required to produce Bibles in multiple languages.
Bible Societies will be able to free up much needed resources to focus on their primary mission.
Offsets the costs for authors, editors and translators to translate and/or create resources.
